FAQ
What happens during a consultation?
Consultations usually last around an hour and take place in a relaxed, private environment. We'll discuss your lifestyle, preferences and any previous experience with wigs before exploring different options together.
There is absolutely no pressure to purchase. The aim is simply to help you understand what's available and find a solution that feels right for you.
I've never worn a wig before, can you help?
Absolutely. Many of my clients are completely new to wigs. Contact me to get booked in for a consultation and I'll guide you through the options and answer any questions you may have in a relaxed, private consultation. Consultations are available in person or online.
Do I need to shave my head to wear a wig?
No. Most women wear wigs over their natural hair. The method for securing a wig is different depending on if you have natural hair or not, and if your natural hair is very thick and long you may need to size up in the wig. I can talk you through the different options during your consultation.
Do I need to use wig glue or wig tape?
No. The wigs I offer are designed for glueless wear and have adjustable features to help achieve a secure fit.
The built in features include built in combs, elastic adjusters, structured ear tabs with silicone strips (on lace front wigs, not on full lace), removable optional elasticated band. There is also the options of using a velvet wig grip. Glues and tape can absolutely be used, but are often not necessary.
During a consultation I can recommend which method of securing a wig would be best for you depending on how much natural hair you have.
Can I use wig glue or wig tape?
Yes. If you prefer to use wig glue or tape for additional security, you can absolutely do so. However, it's important to be aware that adhesives can increase wear and tear on the lace, meaning your wig may will likely need more frequent maintenance and will have a shorter lifespan.
I always recommend using the lightest level of hold that you feel comfortable with. For many people, this is a styling product such as Got2b Glued hairspray (the yellow bottle), which is widely available in supermarkets.
If you require a stronger hold, Wonder Lace products can be a good next step. For maximum hold, products such as Ghost Bond are available, although these are very strong adhesives that require a specialist remover and, can significantly increase wear on the wig.
If you prefer tape, Walker's Wig Tape is a popular option.
Occasional use of adhesives – for example, for a special event, an up-do, or even a day at a theme park – is unlikely to cause significant issues. However, for day-to-day wear, using minimal adhesive (or avoiding stronger glues altogether) will help keep your wig looking its best for longer.
Do I need to wear a wig cap?
No. Most wig wearers do not wear wig caps. You absolutely can wear one if you would like to, but it is not necessary, it just comes down to personal preference.
Will people be able to tell I'm wearing a wig?
My focus is on ultra-realistic hairlines, contemporary colours and helping you choose a wig that looks and feels natural. Many people are surprised by how realistic modern human hair wigs can be. I've had friends, doctors and even hairdressers (!) express genuine surprise when they've realised I was wearing one! The right fit, colour and style can make all the difference.
During your consultation, I'll help you find an option that feels comfortable, looks natural and gives you confidence.
How do I choose the right size?
If you are coming in for a consultation, I'll take measurements to help identify the most suitable cap size for you.
If you are measuring yourself at home take a look at the product guide for tips on how to measure. Booking an online consultation is often helpful as I can also guide you through how to measure during the consultation.
Can my wig be cut or styled?
Yes! Human hair wigs can be cut and styled however you’d like - you can add a fringe, have layers cut, have it cut into a bob… the options are endless! If you have a long standing hairdresser I’d always recommend having them cut it while you wear it to get it as close to your usual style as possible. Alternatively I can recommend local stylists who would be happy to help
Can I use heat styling tools?
Yes. It is best to use heat protection spray and use a maximum temperature of 180 degrees when using styling tools such as straighteners and curling irons. This will help to prolong the life of your wig. I always try to air dry wigs whenever possible, and heatless curls are also a great option.
How do I care for my wig?
Most people wash and restyle their wig after around 7–10 wears, although this can vary depending on how often it is worn and your lifestyle. Once styled, it usually won't require additional restyling until the next wash.
I provide an aftercare card with every purchase, containing guidance on washing, styling and general maintenance to help keep your wig looking its best.
I also recommend using high-quality salon shampoo and conditioner. As wigs are washed much less frequently than natural hair, these products tend to last a long time.
How long will my wig last?
This depends on how often it's worn and how it's cared for. If wearing a wig daily, it will generally last 6-12 months before any maintenance is needed. Using glues, particularly strong adhesives, will reduce the lifespan. Frequent and high heat will also reduce the lifespan. With good aftercare and occasional maintenance, human hair wigs can provide many years of wear.
How much do your wigs cost?
Prices start from £475. Prices vary depending on length, cap construction, density and colour.
Can I bring someone with me to my consultation?
Of course! You're welcome to bring a partner, family member or friend if that would make you feel more comfortable.
Do you accept walk-ins?
No. Consultations are by appointment only. If you require assistance urgently, please get in touch and I will always do my best to arrange an appointment as soon as possible.
